NEWS: NELLY IN TROUBLE W/ MAJOR CREDIT CARD COMPANY, RAPPER OWES $20K

Midwest rapper Nelly is reportedly in trouble with major credit card company American Express with reports claiming he owes over $20,000 in charges.
According to reports, Nelly got some pre-holiday shopping done last October and has not paid up since.
Nelly ran up a $20,403.64 credit card bill with American Express — which seems totally reasonable for a big name rap star. Just one problem … AMEX says he never paid it! The credit card company filed a lawsuit against Nelly (real name Cornell Iral Haynes, Jr) in Missouri back in October to try and get their money back (plus another $3,000 in attorney’s fees). So far though, they claim Nelly has refused to pay what he owes. (TMZ)
The Grammy-winning rapper will have an opportunity to defend himself in court early next month.
In the grand scheme of things, Nelly has sold millions of albums. He’s also still producing music and thus isn’t completely reliant on past income. A twenty thousand plus credit card balance is a big bill, but it’s more of a speed bump than an electric fence for someone with his sort of income. If he owes the money, he’s going to have to pay it back at some point. So, why refuse to pay? Either he’s not guilty or he’s a prick. I guess we’ll wait and see what goes down after the Nelly/American Express fight comes to a head during a court hearing on January 9. (Cinema Blend)
Outside of financial woes, Nelly has been releasing new music over the past week.
We haven’t heard anything new from the man for a while but have no fear Nelly fans. The St Louis Grammy award winning Rapper/Actor is planning to release some new material. His new mixtape entitled O.E.M.O (On Everything Mo) will be released the night before Christmas and right before it comes this freestyle he done over MMG’s very own Wale’s hit single “Lotus Flower Bomb,” which features R&B newbie Miguel on the original version. Having made an attempt at another studio album back in 2010 with 5.0, is this the initiation for another one in the works for Nelly in 2012? (Soul Culture)
On Christmas Eve, he gave fans a little early X-Mas gift in the form of his new mixtape, O.E.M.O.
“HERE YALL GO AS PROMISED!!! http://O.E.MO (MIXTAPE) CLICK THE LINK TO DOWNLOAD!!!… http://fb.me/DGTTTDDr,” he tweeted December 24th. (Nelly’s Twitter)
