The war of words between music icon Mariah Carey and rapper Nicki Minaj appears to finally be over as the Young Money star playfully claimed her “sex tape” helped ease their tensions during the “American Idol” taping.
Carey and Minaj, along with other “Americna Idol” panelists, held a Q&A session recently ironing out their current business relationship.
One critic asked each woman to say something nice about the other. While the crowd held their breath, Minaj began, calling Carey one of her favorite all-time artists and the shaper of a generation of singers. Carey seemed to have more trouble talking about something other than herself but eventually got around to talking about working with Minaj on a single and realizing that Minaj was an artist who would go far. That single: “Up Out My Face.” Carey called the title “ironic.” (Washington Post)
Nicki turned things up a notch when she playfully brought up the impact her alleged sex tape had on bringing them together.
One critic wondered how they came to kiss and make up. “I put on my sex tape,” Minaj responded. “And, there it is,” Carey said, rolling her eyes. The cacophony that ensued made it hard to understand what the two women were saying. Carey appeared to be talking about everyone being able to agree on the wonderfulness of her new shoes — also Louboutins, only strappier and not so high as Minaj’s and with little puffs at the toe. Minaj, meanwhile, continued to discuss the merits of her sex tape as a peacekeeping device. (Washington Post)
Back in November, Minaj promised things between her and Mariah had cooled over.
Hold up, hold up, hold up. Cue the Big Sean ad-lib, please, because Nicki just professed her “love” for the people on “Idol.” Did that include her co-panelist Mariah Carey, who she dubbed “Shady McGrady” during an epic Twitter rant last month, which was fueled by a leaked set video that captured the two divas dueling? So we asked the MC whether she and MC had patched things up. “We’ve been fine,” Minaj said, exasperation creeping into her voice. (MTV)
In October, an “American Idol” producer addressed the publicized dispute which dated back to last summer.
“American Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe is adamant … the bitter feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj is as real as it gets — and his proof lies in simple logic. Nigel was out in L.A. yesterday when we asked for the final word — did he or did he not stage the feud for ratings??? — and Nigel replied, “I have no idea why I would be doing it [for ratings] five months before the show went out.” He added, “I would only do ANYTHING for ratings a month before the show went out. They’ve got my timing wrong.” Translation: keep your eyes out for a crazy “Idol” ratings ploy in three months. (TMZ)
