T-Pain applauds Future’s songwriting ability but says the rapper doesn’t know how to use auto-tune properly.
T-Pain is well-known for his use of auto-tune, and recently took to Instagram to throw some shots at fellow pitch-correction abuser Future. The rapper turnt singer poked fun at the Bugatti used in the video for the Ace Hood-helmed track that Future sings the hook on. He also alluded to the fact that Future was jacking his style referring to him smugly as “the new T-Pain”.
Pain has now called into Hartford’s Hot 93.7 to set the record straight on his comments. While he clarified that he respects the songwriting chops of the Plutonian hook-man, he insists that Future is using his favorite vocal effect incorrectly.
“I don’t think Future gets the technology… I don’t think he understands how it actually works. He’s writing great songs– he’s a great writer– as far as how he uses Auto-Tune… I think he’s thinking you just turn it on, and it happens.”
“A lot of people don’t sing with it, they just sing and put it on after, which is a terrible mistake. There’s a lot of stuff you’ve gotta know about Auto-Tune before you can start using it, because it’s the hot thing to do. But Future’s still great, he’s doing his thing.”
Besides declaring himself the ultimate authority on auto-tune, Pain also confirmed his new album, Stoicville: The Phoenix will be dropping soon. “Come & Get It” serves as the first single from the project.
