Nico Newton is the freshest thing to come out of Chicago. Fusing together a fresh, modern hip-hop sound that will resonate with the many, not the few, Newton has made a conscious effort to create music that will relate. His latest single ‘Top Floor’ is all about doing whatever it takes to get to the very top of the tree, and who can ignore him? His lyricism and vocals are there to be admired in this hard-hitting and emotive track.
Speaking on the meaning behind ‘Top Floor’ Nico explains:
“Top Floor is about making something out of nothing. I’ve been in plenty of situations where my friends that are helping me build an empire end up going to jail or worse, and I would never sit with my head in my hands. I would get up and grind even harder. I guess you can say the pain that was on my back turned into a chip on my shoulder. It’s all about turning losses into wins that my friends on Earth and in heaven can celebrate.”
Surrounded by music from a very young age and inspired by his Grandmother to invest in a craft he could pursue and find a love for, music quickly became centre stage in Nico’s life. Performing from a young age and singing too, he was influenced heavily by the greats such as Tupac, Notorious B.I.G and Jay Z who were the generation’s leaders and innovators in traditional hip-hop and rap.
