Nigerian-born and Irish-raised rapper Offica is set to unveil Part 2 of his historic debut album, “Hokage,” titled “Hokage In Lagos.” Following the release of Part 1 last month, this 4-track installment, slated for release on November 17th via MOVES Recordings, delves into Offica’s Nigerian influences, infusing each track with irresistible energy and rhythmic intensity.
“Hokage In Lagos” showcases Offica’s unique approach by building each track around iconic samples from afrobeats classics, including “Oliver Twist” by D’banje and “Personally” by P-Square. The project features a collaboration with Odumodublvck on the track “Odi Dan Dan,” where Offica seamlessly combines his bars and UK Rap style with an exciting Afrobeats-inspired soundscape.
The album draws inspiration from Offica’s diverse musical and cultural background, seamlessly blending Yoruba mythology, Irish energy, UK Rap sonics, and his love for the Japanese Anime series “Naruto,” specifically the character Hokage, the king of his village.
Part 1, titled ‘Hokage in Drogheda,’ explored Offica’s classic rap sound and depicted life in Ireland. It featured fellow A92 members, offering a diverse range of beats and flows. Tracks like “Overthinker” and “Living Proof” reflected introspective hip-hop, while energetic tunes like “Dedication” and “Stick To the Plan” added a forward-thinking vibe. The project also included bass-driven rap bangers such as “Bluebird” and “Have Fun.”
Offica, reflecting on the duality of the tape, stated, “Growing up in Ireland, my parents always spoke Yoruba to us, so we understand the language and culture. Still, obviously, living in Ireland all my life, I’ve adapted to the Irish way of life. I feel like Nigeria is a huge part of me, and so is being Irish, so I wanted to reflect both sides in my first full project.”
With a successful tour of Australia and a headline show in London, Offica returns to Lagos for the first time since his departure as a baby, marking a significant moment in his career. “Hokage In Lagos” promises to be another chapter in Offica’s journey of cultural fusion and musical exploration.
