Patch shares a new video “Prison,” tackling mental health issues.
Last we heard fro Patch was when he dropped his Cranes In The Sky (Freestyle) late last year which had me buzzing. Today the MC returns in style shares with us something unusual, Patch returns with a collection of spoken word poems as he explores a different approach to creativity. With new video ‘Prison’ he debuts this output with a candle lit and intimate delivery akin to a live performance.
The subject at hand is mental health, well being, positive change and mindfulness. He explains:
“Prison is a piece I wrote about the mind. The way we experience life is determined by our thoughts and our perspective influences our choices. Sometimes we allow ourselves to get caught up in a cycle of limiting thoughts that affectively imprison us so I wanted to expand on that metaphor. I really want to empower people with this piece to become more aware of the things they think about and how those thoughts are affecting them and those around. The subject of mental health is something I’m very conscious of and so the poem is also a bit of a reminder to myself to keep my mind free. “
2016 was a breakthrough year for the burgeoning wordsmith. Tracks such as ‘Point Of View’, ‘90s’ and ‘Sketchbook’ followed the EP ‘Space Between The Heartbeats’ all of which helped establish Patch as a one to watch after being championed by platforms such as Complex, MTV, Clash, SBTV, Indie Shuffle, Hoxton Radio and Reprezent.
There is an obvious duality to Patch’s music, whilst not afraid to tackle personal issues and contemplative moods in his more chilled tracks, he also covers more basic and carnal instincts of a 20 something in London. Coining the philosophy which ties all his music together as ‘Embracing Your Contradictions’, he describes this ethos as “a way of encouraging myself and others to express all elements of who they are, even the bits that don’t make sense to the rest of the world.”
