Petrie releases their second EP titled Self-Destruct, featuring the recent single ‘June.’
On the EP, ‘June’ is also joined by contemplative tracks ‘The Weather’ and ‘Lion’ as well as the stand out title-track ‘Self-Destruct’ which bubbles with all the excitement of weekend nostalgia, vibrates with the fear of falling in love and fuses inflections of club music and hip hop with it’s maximalist pop sound world.
Speaking about the “Self-Destruct EP”, Laurie and George explain that:
“This EP attempts to purge the darkness, irony and mystique of our Slurs EP; the obsession with ‘vibe’, ‘groove’ and whatever, replacing it with honest, colourful lyrics and sonic backdrops that tumble out without fanfare. Melancholic and manic, ecstatic and unashamedly neurotic, it represents a difficult year of roadblocks and rebirth – The old Petrie self-destructed for endless tiresome reasons and now we’re building a new, more personal world of tantalising heartbreak, wonderful myths of summer and a bounty of ice cream van lemon ice.”
Petrie are currently preparing for their first ever headline show at London’s The Waiting Room on 20 September.
