Poet Initiative, one of London’s most varied hip-hop artists, has released his debut EP, Ocean Drive. It features his newly developed melodic RnB-laced sound trademark.
The four-track EP’s sun-drenched mix, which draws inspiration from Korean Hip Hop and Reggaeton, is sure to please fans of Bad Bunny, Jay Park, and Loopy. While the harmonies between the vocal lines and the romantically mellifluous beats blend, the title single gives you a view of the ocean through your speakers.
With Ocean Drive, Poet Initiative broke the monocultural pattern, sharing production duties with the Malaysian producer and musician Reckless Escapades. But he did much more than that. Before offering up a brand-new slice of melodic hip-hop you can vibe, grind, and chill to, he extracted the essence from a diverse sound palette.
The catchy choruses and cosy melodies on my EP combine that, added Poet Initiative, who said that Ocean Drive “reflects my maturing sound. I’ve always found myself caught between trying to create music you can dance to but also kick back to.
The overriding message of this EP is to “have fun, be yourself, enjoy those long summer nights, party in the sun, and make the most of those moments life gives you.”
