Quentin Miller taps Childish Major on “Darkside.”
Quentin Miller is working hard to extricate himself from the long shadow of Drake. On Christmas Eve, he released a superb EP titled Shredded Metal. Sunday night he returned with “Darkside,” a new collaboration with producer Childish Major.
Childish builds a noir-ish beat around a prickly, funky bass line. The vocals sound unmixed, which, in conjunction with Miller’s forceful stream-of-consciousness style, makes this one of his most intriguing tracks yet. His voice is brimming with confidence to the point that he almost sounds drunk, self-assured in the darkness. “Car parked in the darkside/ feel like I ain’t seen the light in years.”
