London rapper Akheim Allen emerges onto the scene with his debut release ‘WAVS DON’T DIE’, produced by Earbuds (Slowthai, Daniel OG).
A bass-heavy, eerie instrumental lays a misty surface for Akheim’s piercing, rugged flows, mixing street level situations with politics, referencing Trident and post traumatic stress disorders in his first bars. Setting the conscious tone, Akheim already feels a rapper of serious ability, moving between rhythms and lexicon with ease. There’s something cerebral and visceral about the flow and punctuation, punching out behind another finessed, low- key instrumental courtesy of one of the hottest beatmakers in the scene right now.
The first taster from his upcoming EP, this new release affirms the levels that Akheim is already operating on – his natural intelligence and stucatto delivery creating an unorthodox, renegade feel. Speaking on the track, Akheim states: “A song that promotes aspiration. When you feel like you’ve been knocked down or have made wrong decisions that have impacted your life – you’ll always be able to find your feet again when you’re passionate and persistent.”
Working already with the likes of Dave East, Avelino and Dreamville’s Ari Lennox, as well as writing with Kojey Radical and Maleek Berry, Akheim is rolling with some of the brightest emerging artists right now, period, and deservedly so: get ready to hear a lot more from Akheim Allen as the summer rolls through.
