RADAR: Girlhood – Say It

Girlhood - Say It

Listen to Girlhood’s latest release “Say It.”

‘Say It’ is the second single from London-based boy-girl group Girlhood, released today via Team Talk Records. This follows the success of first track  ‘My Boy ‘, which saw the band selected as one of Annie Mac’s New Names on Radio 1 (where it also picked up 14 early plays) and led to additional support across Spotify and Apple Music (Best of the Week).

A soulful blend of velvety 90’s R&B, classic hip-hop and modern, DIY pop, ‘Say It’ is a further glimpse into the intimate, one-on-one world of Girlhood. Lyrically, though, ‘Say It’ purposefully looks outward: “some of us pretend to be bulletproof, to keep smiling through the daily grind,” the band write when describing the track. “’Say It’ is an anthem for all of us to break free and celebrate the wonder of human hearts and minds. Nothing’s too precious: it’s all choices.”

Girlhood are the duo of Christian Pinchbeck and Kenyan born Tessa Cavanna, whose transatlantic blend of sounds can be traced back to the unlikely, and less-than glamorous setting of a narrowboat on London’s Regent’s Canal. Put in contact by a mutual acquaintance, the pair’s equally unlikely musical friendship began with Christian looking for a new creative outlet: Working with nothing but an iPad and a beaten up old car stereo installed on the boat, and with inspirations ranging from Lauren Hill to Barry White, from Dean Blunt to The Avalanches, the pair got to work developing the Girlhood sound.

With their early singles My Boy and Say It sounding fresh & effortlessly accomplished, Girlhood promise to become one of the UK’s most compelling musical partnerships.
