Stream Sloane Skylar new EP “Girl Like Me.”

Sloane Skylar is a 21-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer from Chicago, Illinois. She became interested in music at an early age, singing along to her favorite television shows and movies. At age 9, Sloane begged for a guitar and began taking lessons. After only a year, she stopped taking lessons and continued teaching herself by ear and playing the songs she wanted to learn. Sloane kept her musical talent a secret for a long time. At age 11, she gathered enough courage to sing “Geek In Pink” by Jason Mraz, to her parents. Surprised by her talent, they allowed her to create an account on YouTube. She made her musical debut on YouTube in 2007.

A couple years and 10,000 YouTube subscribers later, Sloane saved up enough money to buy herself a nicer camera and music recording equipment. She continued to release videos and one in particular caught the attention of Shawn Campbell, previously Missy Elliott’s producer and the man behind teen sensation Cody Simpson’s discovery. At only 14 years old, Sloane signed her first production deal. Her debut single “All The Above” was released on iTunes September 1st, 2011. In 2013, Sloane collaborated on a music video cover of “Fever” by Peggy Lee with American Idol season seven contestant, Shaun Barrowes. Short after, Sloane began studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA to pursue music as a career and majored in Music Business/Management. Since then, she has performed in various venues in Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, London, and has opened up for notable artists such as Shannon Curfman (Kid Rock’s tour guitarist), and singer/songwriters John Frinzi (collaborated with Jimmy Buffett’s cowriter Tom Corcoran) and Aaron Scherz (BMI #1 hit country songwriter).

After working on various self-produced projects with friends such as “Eclectic Mixtape” (2014) and “Close the Door EP” (2016), Sloane’s debut studio EP “Girl Like Me” created with producers Mike Davidson and Josh Mira was released on September 8, 2017. The sound of the EP has been described as “a stylistic hybrid of contemporary R&B and electro-pop music”, influenced by artists such as Kehlani, JoJo, Jhené Aiko, Pia Mia, and Justin Bieber.
