New Zealand Hip Hop artist Rei is excited to bring to you his new single and accompanying music video, The Chief’s Speech. Rei’s 2nd NZ on Air funded single takes aim at ‘they’. ‘They is anyone who doubts you, who looks down on you for standing up and trying to make something of yourself. This song is all about having that chief mentality to overcome that kind of negativity.’ The fire and passion within this song is portrayed through the haka sample (also written by Rei) that plays throughout. This earth-trembling chant mixed with hard-hitting Hip Hop production and Rei’s melodic, confrontational vocals creates something never before heard in Hip Hop.
The music video, shot entirely in reverse was a challenging project in which Rei had to learn all of his lyrics back to front. ‘It was like learning Russian’ says Rei. The Chief’s Speech is the second single from Rei’s debut studio album A Place To Stand due for release November 2016.
