Rick Ross Scores First Platinum Album, Announces 10th Anniversary ‘Port of Miami’ Concert

Better late than never, right? A full decade after it topped the Billboard 200 and helped launch his career with hits like “Hustlin,” Rick Ross’ Port of Miami has officially been certified platinum, becoming his first album to sell over a million copies. The MMG bawse was presented with his very first platinum plaque on Tuesday (August 8) as his debut album celebrated its 10th anniversary.

There’s even more reason to celebrate Port of Miami‘s success as Rick Ross has announced a special 10th anniversary concert to commemorate his debut album. The show will be held at the actual Port of Miami in Florida’s Biscayne Bay on August 29, and will be available to livestream on TIDAL for both subscribers and non-subscribers.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Rick Ross calls it “the biggest concert of [his] life” and says “it’s most definitely based around Port of Miami with a few exceptions, and like I said, I wanted to do it as big as possible. They shutting down Port of Miami and setting the fucking containers in the way where I could stand on them and the world can see me.

You can bet they’ll be a few special guests, too: “The surprises, you gotta watch. Who coming, you wannawatch.”

Rozay also reflects on his struggling career before he dropped his debut album, including an early encounter with Kanye West. “You know, five years before Port of Miami, I was to a point where I may have even felt like quitting,” he admits.

“I just had to stay focused and I started doing other things. I started writing for other people and being in other studio sessions with other artists. That’s what got me that opportunity to get in the studio with a young Kanye while he was making beats for another artist…we had a lot of time to just sit in the studio and talk about different things.”
