Sam Wills unveils his irresistible new single ‘Undercover’.

Taking its lead from influences including D’Angelo, Chet Faker and Frank Ocean, the single is undoubtedly the funkiest offering from Sam Wills yet. Utilising old school synths like the Juno-60 and drum samples, it is a glorious, hyped-up midnight hook up track and testament to Sam’s innate musicality and ability with melody and groove.

Thematically, ‘Undercover’ is about a clandestine casual affair and is taken from Sam’s upcoming debut album. It was written with regular collaborator, Phairo and was built from the bassline up, which proved a daunting but ultimately rewarding process for the pair, as Sam elaborates;

“Undercover started with the bassline, a few months before starting work on the album. Phairo and I built a groove around it and then I sat with it for many weeks before committing to writing the melody and lyrics, as I wanted something that was going to do the beat justice, which was quite daunting! I finally faced up to it during a month-long stint in the studio that Phairo and I spent between my small setup in Hastings and the studio at the bottom of his garden in west London.”
