99¢ will be Santigold’s first album in four years, but it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of 2016 so far. Case in point, Santi’s newest single “Chasing Shadows,” a thumping cut produced by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij that deals with an artist’s perennial pursuit of perfection (and, because of that, a lack of happiness and sense of fulfillment).
The accompanying video, directed by Elliott Lester, finds Santigold getting through the holidays on her lonesome. Pretty depressing stuff, but for those poor souls who haven’t yet been cuffed this winter, this album may well be much-needed therapy music.
Also featuring the iLoveMakonnen-assisted “Who Be Lovin’ Me,” 99¢ will now arrive on February 26.
