Stro Gets at Ebro Darden for Not Supporting New York Rap

Astro just changed his name to Stro and stopped by HOT 97’s Ebro in the Morning to plug his new pseudonym and single “Mighty Healthy ‘16,” which pays homage to Ghostface Killah’s classic cut of the same name from his 2000 album Supreme Clientele.

Aside from the usual promo talk, the 18-year-old Brooklyn native engaged in a fierce discussion with Ebro Darden and accused the radio station of not supporting New York artists. He suggested that while his tracks get played in LA and Atlanta, NY radio is not supporting him or any other local rappers. While he appreciates HOT 97 keeps inviting him for interviews, he wishes his singles get played not only when when people are waking up or going to sleep.

For his part, Ebro ran with the theme artists like Stro does not deserve to be played during primetime just yet and they should put in more work before demanding frequent airplay. He admitted radio will support an artist only when he is hot enough and that until one hits the road for a real tour and not just series of club gigs, it doesn’t matter what the radio is playing.
