$VN are back after a transformative end to 2021, with members of MØD, their label, moving to New York City in pursuit of their musical ambitions. Uprooting their life from Toronto, Canada and ending long term relationships, the duo express their difficulties of moving on while experiencing melancholic nights caused by the uncertainty of love. “More Than Ever” captures the complexities and consequences of acting on desire: the desire to move to NYC, acting on impulsive one night stands and the repercussions of trying to move on too quickly. This is further reinforced by the production on “More Than Ever”, which features a lustful beat, confessional lyrics and emphatic vocals. The duo teamed up with their longtime friend and collaborator shubs for the production, which captured the essence of leaving behind a familiar life.
About the song, nyXsun explains, “This one came together quickly. Shubs and I had touched down in Manhattan, and were living it up in the city. One Saturday night after hitting up a club, we both realized that even though we were vibing with the city, we missed Toronto and in particular the relationships we’d ended while moving from Canada. We immediately started drafting a beat that captured the sorrow of missing an ex, while writing about the emptiness of one night stands/flings. After the initial beat and chorus had come together, we added a bridge to express the hollowness of being alone in a new city, followed by some new instrumentation in the ending chorus for an emphatic finish. SAGS topped it off with a catchy and relatable chorus which sealed the deal on this release. With the winter and cuffing season in full effect, this track will hit home for those missing their exes, wanting a loved one or those who are just hopeless romantics.”
