Fresh from their debut London headline show, Irish duo Tebi Rex release their new single ‘Deadman’.
The track is taken from their album ‘It’s Gonna Be Okay’ scheduled for release sometime in the month (Oct), and sees the band continue to push the boundaries of their own sound to embrace pop and alternative influences alongside their rap roots. ‘Deadman’ is a return to the alt-pop sound of their recent collaboration with ROE which has seen them gain support from various publications.
A prequel of sorts to the dark, hard hitting ‘Deadman II’, ‘Deadman’ appears a lighter affair at first. Scratch the surface though and all is not well. Dripping with melancholy, this is a song about hopelessness. Anchored to their own shortcomings, insecurities and personal failings, Tebi Rex explore the perspective of trying to remain positive in uncertain times but failing miserably. In their own words –
“This is us at our most angry, most frustrated, most hopeless. Which is funny because we made sure it sounded really upbeat. Like someone having a breakdown desperately trying and failing to convince themselves that it’s going to be okay.”
The track offers another aspect of the story that forms their new album ‘It’s Gonna Be Okay’ – released through Republic Of Music on 29 October. 2021 has proven a busy year for Tebi Rex, with appearances at SXSW, Eurosonic, the Great Escape and a live performance for The Line Of Best Fit’s ‘Off The Road’ series. The band perform in Dublin’s Opium Rooms on 20 Nov and will be touring the UK in 2022.
