Melbourne’s Tentendo pairs with frequent collaborator Blasko to share his silky smooth and infectiously catchy new track ‘Ghost’. After premiering on Red Bull Music and receiving its first spin from KCRW’s Travis Holcombe, it comes alongside news of his signing to Majestic Casual Records, who’ll be releasing a number of new tracks from the talented producer.
Despite this being his second release under the Tentendo guise (following on last year’s single ‘One Stop Shop’), he’s built a solid catalogue of work producing for Billy Davis (as well as performing as part of their live set up), and fellow band members Jordan Dennis and Blasko – the latter who lends his smooth vocal to this new single.
Of the track, Tentendo says; ‘Ghost came about one winter afternoon in my lounge room with Blasko. I just started flicking through some old beats – most of which I hated but this one stuck out as one which might have potential. We re-worked it a bit and the song was done a couple of hours and a short pizza break later. Ghost is about wanting to be seen, wanting to be visible to someone.’
Tentendo has a diverse background in his music and production life, studying bass guitar and music performance, before a wrist injury turned his attention to production recently when he was unable to play. Shifting his energy to production he found interest and influence in a range of artists, citing Taylor Mcferrin, Flying Lotus, J Dilla and the Roots as his musical inspiration.
His production took a positive turn over the past year as he joined forces with rising Melbourne act Billy Davis (for who he plays bass and produces), whose debut album A Family Portrait saw support from the likes of BBC1, Okayplayer, and High Snobiety, while sharing the stage with the likes of Goldlink and NONAME. From there, he has gone on to produce for several other artists in the growing Billy Davis camp, Blasko and Jordan Dennis, while also launching his own solo career. Tentendo’s production style consists of carefully layered percussion and thick synths saturated in sweet. sticky vocals with thumping bass lines to colour the melodic madness. Lush, RnB neo-soul at its very best.
