The Game finally returned with official news and not hypothetical release dates on his upcoming studio album The Documentary 2. After suffering a bunch of delays, the highly-anticiapted sequel to his 10-year-old debut is finally ready to arrive in stores on September 25th.
In addition, Jayceon also unveiled the cover artwork for the LP. It was shot by Jonathan Mannion, who photographed his first album cover, in front of a chainlink fence on the bridge of Cedar Block Piru in Compton, where he grew up.
Everything about the photo shoot made me feel the exact same way I did when we were there 10 years ago,” Game wrote.
The rapper also elaborated on the legacy of Compton, which was boosted earlier this year by Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, Dr. Dre’s Compton and N.W.A’s biopic Straight Outta Compton.
This album is better than my 1st for more than a few reasons,” he added. “After Kendrick dropped his album, then Dr. Dre dropped #Compton then the movie doing 100 million after just 2 weeks….. This album will add to my cities continuous legacy !!!! I’m proud to be from #COMPTON & I wish #EazyE was alive to see us flourish yet again…… We on !!!”
Of course, he also didn’t miss the occasion to put emphasis on Dre’s stamp of approval.
Dre said this is the best hip hop album in the last 5 years at least…… & we still here 10 years later,” declared Game.
