The Hour’s new track ‘Killing Time’ echoes the terse atmosphere of their previous two singles which set minimalist neo-soul and emotionally fraught lyrical themes to nihilistic imagery. That maverick spirit is accentuated this time around with a production that evolves in style from minimalistic to idiosyncratic, with the core lyric “If they don’t hold my tongue, I’ll say the truth” revealing more about The Hour’s personality than any conventional biographical information ever could.
‘Killing Time’ heightens The Hour’s confrontational imagery with a video that depicts an extreme close-up of an otherwise anonymous person’s inner lip being tattooed. It’s interspersed with quotes from Kurt Vonnegut’s satirical short story Harrison Bergeron, which challenged the belief that pure, state-sanctioned equality for all would be a desirable utopian ideal.
