After being found guilty of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, Tory Lanez was given a 10-year sentence.

A federal judge in Los Angeles handed down the 10-year sentence to Tory on Tuesday, August 8th. The 31-year-old Toronto man, who maintained his innocence throughout the public case’s nearly three-year length, was found guilty last December of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, possessing an unlicensed handgun while driving, and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm.

Prior to being sentenced, Tory, who initially faced a sentence of up to 22 years and probable deportation, spoke in court. He remarked, “If I could change it, I would, but I can’t. “I fully accept responsibility for all I did that night. I genuinely just want to work on being a better person.

A judge previously rejected a retrial. His defense team intends to seek bail when the sentence is appealed and to appeal both the conviction and the punishment.

Megan, a 28-year-old who was not present for the sentencing, made the following statement. “The defendant must finally be made to bear the full weight of his heinous deeds and face justice.”

After a verbal altercation with Megan Thee Stallion in Hollywood Hills on July 12, Tory was charged with felony assault in October 2020.
