Femi Tahiru steps up once more with a moody new track “The First Time I Got High” taken from his upcoming project.
The track features his smooth, resonant vocals throughout, sitting on top of a series of scintillating guitar riffs and catchy percussive elements, and it’s one of the most captivating releases to emerge this summer. Femi, a Northampton native, has already received 2023 plays on stations like BBC R1 with Jack Saunders and BBC R6, as well as important looks from UK tastemakers, thanks to her natural ability to tell compelling and authentic stories over seductive soul-influenced beats.
The new song adds to the young artist’s already strong discography, which includes his most well-known song, “Signs,” a viral bedroom-pop single with over 2.4 million streams to date across DSPs. With his second EP Obsidian receiving support from BBC R1 Xtra’s Jams Supernova and 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, as well as his hit single “Asking For” from last year garnering praise from influential tastemakers like Huw Stephens of BBC R1 and Chris Hawkins of BBC 6 Music, a picture of a standout new artist with a knack for crossover hits emerges.
