Lyrically, “Skin Out” delves into the concept of getting back together with an ex for the sake of nostalgia, set to a low-key, bass-driven groove that blends R&B standards with dancehall cadences. The addition of New York heavyweights CJ (of UK Top 5 song “Whoopty” fame) and “Gyalis” hitmaker Capella Grey to “Skin Out” showcases Monroe X’s international appeal and amplifies the original seductive emotions he created to the track.

According to Monroe X, “Skin Out” was written after a toxic ex-girlfriend finally got in touch with him after five years. She removed her block and welcomed me over for some old-timey catch-up chat. After a long separation, I wrote this song as a way to explain my feelings for her and my thoughts on our relationship.
