In a statement to DJBooth, Wale says he chose to sign with Warner Bros., which is coincidentally the parent label of Atlantic, due to the financial support and creative freedom the company offers — as an artist and a label owner.
“This is what Every Blue Moon needed, this what Wale needed, this is what my daughter, Zyla, needed!” Wale said. “I’m finally an executive. A real exec. Watch it all unfold. Once I get myself settled in I’m changing the industry the way I see fit and working vigorously to create, sign and promote DOPE SHIT. I’m richhhhh, biyaaaaatch.”
Wale has dropped two EPs — It’s Complicated and Self Promotion — this year and is set to release his sixth studio album. His Every Blue Moon imprint currently counts fellow DMV rapper Phil Adè on its roster, along with various musicians, comedians and screenwriters.
