Electronic producer and rapper Gyles Bartle announces the release of his debut single, ‘You’. Hailing from Greenwich in South East London, ’You’ showcases the young producer’s sound with influences across the board jumping from downtempo hip-hop to trap, all in a genre-defying, future-facing way. At the age of 20, Gyles has already accumulated a considerable following through his production work alone, also releasing music under his production guise Gylzey . The release of ‘You’ takes him out of his comfort zone to challenge bigger goals as a solo artist.
Over a midnight blue beat, the solitary, dreamlike ‘You’ invites you into Gyles’s late night reflections, reminiscing over the passing of time and lost loves. Gyles says of the track: ‘when recording ‘You’ I was feeling quite detached from everything. Putting myself in this ball that felt like almost no one could see me in, which only made things worse. The night prior to making You I remember just laying back in my room literally just daydreaming. So the next morning I woke up, and naturally just came about making it.’
‘You’ was naturally inspired by the jazz and electronic music that Gyles was listening to at the time. His sound was defined and developed through a life-changing trip to a formal hip-hop workshop in Hastings back in 2012. Being introduced to the sounds of MF Doom, Heltah Skeltah and Artifacts alongside Eskimo, Porter Robinson and James Blake shaped the career of the young virtuoso, inspiring him to distill these various influences to craft his own bold sound.
