Watch Kojey Radical’s Spoken-Word Sermon “Bambu”
The visual centres around the idea of perception; using contemporary dance and performance art to gesture the struggles of inner city decay and how that is translated and celebrated within music and urban culture combining the aesthetic of a modern fashion film with the stylised movement and grittiness of drill music and trap videos.
The film features garments from ADA + NIK , DIORALOP, Manuel Diaz, and was styled by Kojey Radical in conjunction with the BAMBU PHOTOGRAPHED BY NXSH fashion story.
The visual accompanies Kojey’s first single of 2015 which radio premiered by Sian Anderson on BBC 1XTA, joining forces with rising swedish producer Lupus Cain to a create a completely unique blend of genres, combining spoken word poetry with a trap influenced instrumentation.
Bambu details society from an almost anthropological view point with grippingly relatable undertones. Kojey cleverly chooses to speak on a personal journey through inner city life, drug culture and the detrimental effects of ignorance within urban culture all while seamlessly linking back to concepts of darwinian theory and the nature of survival.
Bambu is an audio journey that continues to rise both lyrically and sonically held together
with a catchy juxtaposing chorus section and a highly climatic ending.
