North London’s Laurel Smith drops off a brand-new cinematic video for “Game Over.”
Partly inspired by video games, (Laurel being a keen Twitch streamer herself), ‘Game Over’ is all about the haunting illusion of being stuck in a constant loop, unable to break free no matter how hard you try, kind of like being stuck on a level of a game you just can’t complete. Laurel’s lyrics are contemplative and poetic, her words paint a picture of a troubled mind, aware of what’s wrong but unable to do anything about it.
“ ’Game Over’ is a dark, atmospheric track with a driving chorus.
It’s about a vicious cycle: being in a situation which you try everything to get out of, but always finding yourself back in the same place you began. Like a character in a video game, every time you die you are regenerated at the start. I wrote the track during a low point in my life where I felt I had no control over anything anymore. I hope others can hear the song and identify with the same feelings I was experiencing.” — Laurel Smith.
