Tems. NBA 2023

The 2023 NBA Halftime Show included a lot of Afrobeats acts, and Nigeria and the rest of Africa did not let anybody down.

We’ve got all the highlights from the 2023 NBA Halftime Show in Utah, where Nigerian Afrobeats musicians Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems performed.

Basketball’s finest from both conferences—dubbed Team Lebron and Team Giannis, respectively—squared off in an exciting game on February 20, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the benefit of charity.

Aside from the sporting events, the musical performance by worldwide Nigerian superstars Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems was a highlight of the evening.

After being introduced by Pascal Siakam, the Cameroonian star for the Toronto Raptors, Grammy winner Burna Boy opened the night with a rousing performance of “Anybody,” backed by his ever-impressive Outsiders Band. After singing “It’s Plenty” and “Ye,” the African Giant concluded with the internationally renowned “Last Last.”

Across the globe, Mavin and Jonzer have become synonymous with afrobeats. Next, Rema wowed the crowd with an angelic performance of “Calm Down,” then he picked up the speed for his new single, “Holiday,” and last, he closed with an outstanding delivery of the song.

Tems, a singer and composer who has won a Grammy, wowed the crowd with a scorching performance of her most popular songs, including “Crazy Tings,” “Free Mind,” “Essence,” and “Higher.”

This is a tremendous step forward for Nigerian music, since these musicians will be the first Afrobeats artists to share the spotlight with international superstars like rapper Post Malone.
