Stormzy acceptance speech mobo awards

Watch a selection performances from 2015 MOBO Awards and check out the winners.

When the MOBO nominations came out in September, every rap and grime fan in the UK began to bristle with excitement at the possibility of a big sweep in this year’s awards, with 27 nominations in total across the categories. But as MOBOs history goes, the right acts often get nominated, only to then be pipped by a commercial blue whale like Sam Smith, Jessie J, or this year, maybe “Uptown Funk”. Last night, though, the MOBOs came all sorts of good, awarding big prizes like Best Male Act and Best Album to stars from the UK rap and grime scene.

South London bossman Stormzy took home Best Male Act and Best Grime Act, and Krept and Konan won Best Album and Best Hip Hop Act. Skepta was awarded Best Song for “Shutdown”, but when his win was announced to no Skepta, no video message, and nobody in particular to pick it up for him, there was a small wave of confusion around the room. And, obv, Bizzle turned up in a Lambo.

Elsewhere, Section Boyz, Fuse ODG, and Popcaan all took home prizes. As did FKA Twigs for the video to “Pendulum”, revealing in her acceptance speech that her first ever music video appearance back in the day would have been Lethal Bizzle’s “Firecamp” but Bizzle cut her out in the final take. And Wiley finally got that Paving the Way award that had been touted for a while.

Maybe the only award of the night that went amiss was Best Flex, which we’re awarding to this guy below.
