Watch Zaytoven’s ‘The Note’ Documentary

Gucci Mane or T.I.? Whoever deserves to lay claim as the originator of trap music, there’s no denying Zaytoven’s importance to the genre (better yet, culture). In the latest installment of their documentary series The Note, Red Bull Music explores how the legendary Atlanta producer honed his music skills in Church and became one of the key sonic architects behind trap music’s rise, a go-to collaborator of Gucci Mane, Future, Migos and many more.

While Zaytoven usually prefers to let the music do the talking, the 17-minute documentary also highlights his personal life, family history, and spiritual side. “What I really wanted to focus on was character and relationships,” Zaytoven told Billboard of the documentary. “People know me for the music I do, starting a certain sound, and I guess being the godfather of trap. But I wanted to show people the character I hold in the midst of doing this music.”
