Wyclef Jean remembers how he and his friends chased different “rock star” dreams on his new single “Hendrix.”
The great Wyclef Jean has returned with another track off his upcoming album Carnival Vol. III: Road to Clefication, following March’s “My Girl.” The album will be Wyclef’s first in seven years. His new single is entitled “Hendrix,” and as you can see by the single artwork, the song explores some of the temptations that led to the demise of the rock legend.
He looks back to his days as an adolescent on the block, when he and his friends were each faced with divergent paths on which to focus their lives. “I chose music, my homies chose yay,” sings Wyclef, “Some of my ballers chose the NBA.” He remembers how he dreamed of being, like Hendrix, a rock star, while his cousin had the ambitions of Escobar. Trap drums skitter across the moody guitar production as Wyclef explores the trappings of the drug game. There’s no Carnival Vol. III release date yet, though Wyclef has promised that it will arrive some time in the fall.
