Yeat, a rap superstar, is back today with AftërLyfe, the explosive follow-up to 2022’s Lyf.
Starting with the unmistakable “Shmunk” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, the 22-track record continues where Lyf left off, showcasing Yeat’s growth as an artist and his pursuit of a more experimental sound. This album, which has hazy melodies and biting lyrics, demonstrates that Yeat defies categorization. AfterLyf shows again how versatile the rising star is, and he is still one of the most interesting musicians working today.
AftrLyfe is the next logical step after Lyfe, with mesmerising rhythms paired with Yeat’s characteristic vocal inflections and sing-along melodies (and umlaut-strewn song names like “No mor speak,” “Bttr 0ff,” and “Havyweight”). The scorching new track “Shmunk,” which features the return of the rapper’s old collaborator NBA YoungBoy, is a prime example. Prior to this, the duo worked together on the smash song “I Don’t Text Back,” which was released in 2022.
