The word “dramatic” has overtones of an unstable love triangle in which neither partner can let go of the other. The song puts the listener in the pensive, tense state of mind shared by lovers; it describes the frustration of dealing with a clingy partner and the damage they can do, but it also acknowledges the complexities of human nature and the difficulty of saying goodbye to someone we care about, even when we know it’s for the best.
