Following the success of the 2022 songs “Shivering in Bed,” a remarkable Indie Pop tune reminiscent of a tropicana, “Days Like This,” a haze-infused track, and “Real,” a striking, significant debut, was released. The mysterious Amen Sioux is back, and he’s been hinting to an upcoming EP full of fresh, varied music that’s been cooking in the background.
His latest fusion of indie electronica, dream pop, alternative R&B, and psychedelia starts off with the anthemic “Useless,” the fourth of his shown works, and has a snappy, gritty, in-your-face edginess throughout. Who is this Amen Sioux character, anyway? The truth is, however, nobody knows for sure. You won’t find anything online outside his music, which was likely done on purpose. Some lingering references to New Ivory’s former incarnation as Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak record label may be seen here and there, but it seems that Amen Sioux is ready to finally let his work speak for itself for the time being.
With “Useless,” Amen Sioux is off to a great start on a year full of new songs. It’s full of energy, high on octane, and buzzing with electricity, and there are plenty of catchy melodies throughout. ‘Useless’ is a quirky, catchy, and sure fire smash, set to carry you all the way there thanks to its punky vocals, pounding drum rhythm, and superb synth work.
As Amen Sioux explains, he “reset my approach to recording” in order to create the EP. Although I had trouble composing on my laptop at first, I eventually discovered my groove while working in studios with other musicians and the experienced producer and engineer Maurizio Baggio (Boy Harsher).
He exudes an appealing air of rock star mystique, and his look is hard to resist.
