Swedish artist/songwriter/producer Bishat is releasing her debut EP today: Q417 (Mixtape) featuring this song “Dream About Me” – both the song and the video are intimate and dramatic, exploring the fear of change in a relationship – that moment when things are uncertain and all the insecurities creep up.
With roots in Ethiopia and Eritrea, Bishat writes and performs dark soulful pop, deeply influenced by contemporary R&B. Bishat got her first taste of making music at the age of 13 when she wrote her first song with José González. She’s been compared to artists like FKA Twigs, Tove Lo and even The Weeknd, and was named ‘Best New Artist of the Month’ by Pigeons & Planes, and “a pop star in waiting…” by The 405.
Q417 was written during a dark time in Bishat’s life – the title represents the 4th quarter of 2017, a long painful moment during which her world was falling to pieces. After breaking off her engagement, dealing with a life crisis and having no place to call home she spent her days creating music and her nights trying to forget – the result is a mixtape filled with stories of blurry nights and destructive behavior, as well as mourning and trying to moving on.
