Emily Chambers — Left Alabama

“I wrote this song when I was driving from New Orleans to Nashville (where I now live) for the first time. I had started the second leg of my first US tour in my 1983 Dodge Camper Van. My bandmate had just left for another tour and I was on my own for the first time. It was an incredibly freeing feeling. Earlier that same year I had quit my day job working in insurance to do music full time, bought said camper van, and planned this tour. I manifested that exact moment; it was badass.”

Laville — Thirty One

Laville releases new single ‘Thirty One’ on January 16th on Acid Jazz Records. Having showcased new material at London’s Borderline the day before release and premiered the track on Complex, North Londoner Laville unveils his latest offering, a smooth, sultry slow jam.

Speaking about the track he explains, “Thirty one is about love that you know you are ready for, and it is also about knowing who you are and being ok with you. I think its important to understand yourself and your age and to not let that hold you back from doing what you need to be fulfilled.”

‘Thirty One’ is the title track of his forthcoming debut EP, which will be released in spring and the follow-up to debut single ‘Easy’,a remarkable introduction to the musical world of singer Laville. Whilst influenced via a creative cornucopia as he moved through his teens, more recently has seen this talented vocalist weave his own path with assistance from an array of friends and mutual musical acquaintances.

Billy Davis — Shoulda Known Feat. VanJess & Matt McGhee

‘Shoulda Known’ is an uplifting and energetic track that is full of International flavour, combining neo-soul with elevating Australian-style RNB and is the latest indicator that Billy is forging new territory here and abroad.

‘Shoulda Known’ was written by Billy Davis, KYE and Matt McGhee and produced by Billy Davis, Fossabeats and Louie Lastic. The track was mixed by Jamie Snell (Nao, Mura Masa, JOY, MØ, Dua Lipa) and mastered by Chris Gehringer (Vince Staples, Leon Bridges, Drake, Rihanna). ‘Shoulda Known’ is the first single off Billy’s forthcoming album, anticipated in 2019. Of the track, Billy explains:

“All this music stuff happened so fast and I’m incredibly thankful and blessed for all the opportunities. But I know along the way I made some mistakes. I prioritised things I shouldn’t have and hurt people important to me. In the lead up to my album, which is a tell-tale lesson about everything I’ve learnt, ‘Shoulda Known’ is a cry from myself. It’s about acknowledging that I made mistakes and learning from them.”

Slopes — Holding On

Through the use of vocal samples, subtle piano, and bouncy drums, my latest track “Holding On” draws from a similar aesthetic as the Weeknd’s “House of Balloons” to create a melancholy neo-R&B vibe. The song’s lyrics reflect on the intricacies and pressures of trying to maintain relationships that may be slipping out of control. The song was produced by Primestars and self-recorded/mixed/mastered in Crown Heights.

Jxckal — Last Night

This is the second single from my new project, all produced, mixed etc by me. Looking for exposure and feedback from different audiences. Will share any posts/playlists on all social media platforms.

Michael Bright — Heartache

Michael Bright burns through contemporary R&B with a fiery passion. A natural trailblazer, his soulful sound and sultry voice create something that is uniquely his. He moulds his pain into songs with true emotions and lyrics that capture audiences. With his intense pressure and heat, not only in his bars but in his heart, his love for music grows stronger every day.

Aged 19, Michael Bright is a Toronto native and was raised in Brampton. By the age of 7 he was already deeply entrenched in the world of hip-hop, pop, and R&B. He has studied the greats – Chris Brown, Usher, Michael Jackson – and is now determined to become greater. Since then he has performed at talent shows, The Rose Theatre, Bramalea City Centre, and many high school performances. He now attends Sheridan College as a sophomore but he dedicates most of his time to creating and cultivating music. He produces music in his small studio where he developed his sound and is currently working on new singles set to come out next year. When he was 18, he released some experimental tracks including “Your Mind” and “Wet” featuring Arhinslim. His first music video, “Heartache,” captures the pain of heartbreak with a slow tempo as his memory of his former lover’s bright personality slips away, but not in silence.

The video for “Heartache” opens up with an all-seeing eye as we shift into the viewpoint of Michael Bright. Directed by Motion Beaver, the video is painted over a city landscape with flashing green and pink light. With the contrast of the changing background, one can sense the changing seasons. The feelings fade just like the weather and he calls back to a time and place where things were less cold. As the frame shoots to his old flame, he demands answers that will never explain the pain away. Without closure, “Heartache” brings people together in a time of distress to prove once again that music is the universal language of love that can’t be taken away.
