Eminem’s publishers come after New Zealand’s National Party for using his track “Lose Yourself” in their political campaign.
Eminem and his publishing company have initiated a lawsuit against a New Zealand political party for their allegedly unauthorized use of his song “Lose Yourself.”
The copyright infringement lawsuit targets the National Party of New Zealand and states that the current prime minister, John Key, used the rapper’s “Lose Yourself” music in his re-election campaign without Em’s permission.
The lawsuit points out the irony in this, stating, “it is both disappointing and sadly ironic that the political party responsible for championing the rights of music publishers in New Zealand by the introduction of the three strikes copyright reforms should itself have so little regard for copyright.”
The National Party claims they did not infringe on any rights, and that when they were alerted about the copyright complaint they immediately stopped using the track. They also state that other organizations have used “Lose Yourself”, but they are the only ones being targeted.
