Eminem cements his legacy with his latest single, “Tobey,” featuring fellow Detroit heavyweights Big Sean and BabyTron. This track, inspired by Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-Man, sees the trio delivering blistering verses over a sparse, impactful beat.

BabyTron kicks things off with sharp wit, rapping, “Upped in the bitch, you can keep what you owe / Granny told me, ‘Boy, you reap what you sow’ / Do the most, we over, even the score / Steady on the run, glued his feet to the floor.” His verse sets a gritty tone, laying the groundwork for what’s to come.

Big Sean takes the baton with a rapid-fire flow, delivering lines like, “I put all of my heart and my soul in it / I met you in person, you so different / I can’t listen to you for a whole minute / Took a blood test, ain’t no ho in it / Watch your motherfucking mouth ‘fore I go in it,” showcasing his lyrical dexterity and intensity.

Eminem closes out the track with his signature sharp lyricism, questioning the validity of top-five rapper lists: “Ain’t feelin’ your top five favorite rappers / So I know they ’bout to be pissed at me / But this, to me, is a mystery / How rappers I’ve already ripped could be / Higher up on a list than me / Yet here I sit on your list though at five, which still was fine.”

“Tobey” follows Eminem’s previous single “Houdini” and both tracks are from his upcoming album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). This new release reaffirms Eminem’s place in the rap pantheon, delivering a powerful showcase of Detroit’s finest talents.
