London’s musical chameleon FelixThe1st arrives with his highly anticipated project ‘i hope you never fit in’. Spanning across 13 tracks, ‘i hope you never fit in’ is a soundtrack for misfits taking listeners on a musical journey merging Bedroom Pop, Shoegaze, and Grunge with Felix’s tastemaker flair. The no-features project is a statement highlighting his intentions to remain unapologetic and explore new genres that he hadn’t before. Having put his blood, sweat, and tears into the project, ‘i hope you never fit in’ ensures that Felix’s moniker as a musical chameleon is showcased in all its glory.
“I want this to be an immersive listening experience. It’s a project that began with such tiny ideas that have now become songs that mean a lot to me. It’s fascinating that we’ll look back at this as a moment in my journey where I stopped caring about what people think. I’m proud to say that my integrity speaks through my music.”
‘i hope you never fit in’ was born in LA with studio sessions with music-makers Y2K (Doja Cat, Lil Nas X) and Stolen Nova before returning to London to build on what he had started. Inspired by Felix’s melodramatic outlook on relationships, the project begins with ‘for now’ which incorporates romance, heartbreak, and frustration; the running themes of the project. Felix offers nuances of Bedroom-Pop with Rock-infused riffs and drums glazed with ‘Swan Song’ – championed by BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and DJ Semtex – to provide the most vulnerable version of his character to date. The heart of the project sees more sonic twists including Jersey Club-inspired ‘would u wait’ before ‘Three’ and ‘Friday 13th’, a track driven by Felix’s rockstar attitude. Felix re-visited challenging parts of his life to compose the full project, including relationship difficulties on closing tracks, ‘What Now’, ‘Stay’ and ‘Oh Well’.
