A week after his historic hip-hop performance at the end of the 2023 GRAMMY Awards, much-hyped multi-hyphenate Fridayy is back with the heartfelt music video for “Momma.”
Fridayy buys his mom a new house as a token of his gratitude for all she’s done for him and his brothers. The film opens with Fridayy’s mother telling the story of how the now-famous producer/songwriter promised in a song to buy her a new house one day, and then the Philadelphia native shows us around his first studio, a ramshackle setup in his bedroom. The first-generation Haitian-American who wrote the hit tune “God Did” for DJ Khaled and his crew of hip-hop royalty (Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and John Legend) and just performed it as the GRAMMYs’ curtain-raiser in 2023.
Fridayy’s “Momma” may be found on the EP’s deluxe version, Lost In Melody. including the remix to his song “Blessings,” which features up-and-coming Afrobeats sensation, Asake, and has amassed over 6 million cumulative streams since its debut in December, along with four new tracks for the album as a whole. Fridayy features music sensation Ty Dolla $ign on the album’s centerpiece tune, “Shoot,” which was produced by Yonatan Watts (Chris Brown, Ari Lennox, Coi Leray), as well as by Fridayy himself and ReezyTunez (D Smoke, Buddy).
Fridayy’s “Momma” video is more proof that the artist’s upbringing has had a profound effect on his music, which he calls “life music,” and shows an artist who knows how to tug at the listener’s heartstrings.
