Nigerian artist Naira Marley ends the year on a high as he drops off two brand new singles ‘Koleyewon’ and ‘Chi Chi’.
‘Koleyewon’ produced by Niphkeys, translates to “they can’t understand” in Yoruba. The track lightly highlights the current state of Nigeria and the challenges the country has faced this year; most especially the #ENDSars movement. Police brutality and inadequate governance are both topics that have been reflected in Naira’s music previously. The track is also accompanied by a visual which can be seen above.
‘Chi Chi’ on the other hand, brings a different feel, a more fun and bouncy record centred on love; a side to Naira that is not often heard in his music. Produced by long-time collaborator Rexxie, Naira Marley quotes lyrics that include “Marlians have feelings too”, a nod to his ever-growing fanbase.
The singles serve as a statement from Naira Marley, with both songs evoking contrasting emotions of love and sadness. “My fans are waiting for me to drop a December Jam, I’m giving them two jams. They want to hear from their president. These songs are how I’m feeling now and I want to share it with my Marlians, lets get lit”
In hopes Covid restrictions are eased, he’s set to take to the stage at the SSE Arena Wembley in London on April 10th, 2021 for his annual “Marlian Fest”.
