Last year’s drug charges will extend Beanie Sigel’s sentence by 6 to 23 months.
Beanie Sigel has not had very much luck with the law. The Philadelphia rapper was arrested last August for possession of codeine, prescription pills and a small amount of marijuana, and pleaded guilty to the charge today. Sigel is already serving a 2 year sentence for tax evasion, and will now have to serve an additional 6 to 23 months for the drug charge.
Sigel’s attorney Carson Morris argued that his client has changed. “Mr. Grant has been a successful entertainer and musician in the Philadelphia community for decades,” Morris said. “Obviously, he’s had an incredible amount of success and opportunity in his life. He’s also made some mistakes, which have ended up putting him in custody. He’s ready to go ahead and put that behind him and move on with is life.”
Sigel’s plea to serve the drug sentence concurrently with the tax evasion time was put on hold for the time being, as it is to be decided by the federal court.
