President Obama has already made it clear that he has a lot of admiration for rapper Kendrick Lamar, and it looks like the love is more than mutual. Not only did K. Dot get a special invite up to the White House to meet POTUS last year, but so did some of his fellow hip hop artist friends in the game. With his departure from office approaching, K. Dot shared his praise of Obama embracing the hip hop community during his presidential terms.
He spoke to XXL about the President bringing hip hop into the White House, and mentioned that our next President, Mr. Donald Trump, may not be so inviting.
Kendrick stated,
“We all have to give [Obama] his credit due for even allowing us into the building. We would probably never get inside that house ever again. Think about it like that. Rick Ross, Cole, Nicki Minaj, he really went for us to come experience it. This is something our grandparents always wanted to see, never thought in a million years, but [we can] pass it down to our generation to say, ‘Alright, I’m in here and I’m finna use my power to let ya’ll see how this thing works and I’mma drop some knowledge on y’all that a man can’t drop on everybody else ’cause y’all have the most influence.”
If you recall, President Obama named K. Dot’s “How Much A Dollar Cost” as his favorite song of 2015 last year, which was a track on his Grammy-winning To Pimp A Butterfly album. Obama even said that Kendrick would win in a rap battle against Drake when asked by an interviewer.
Hopefully these two will stay in touch, and we can only hope that we see hip hop enter the White House again in the future
