After years of anticipation, Andre 3000, one-half of the iconic OutKast duo, has pleasantly surprised fans with the release of his debut solo project, New Blue Son. This instrumental album features eight tracks with no rap verses but showcases Andre 3000’s musical artistry through instrumental performances with his flute.
The tracks have distinctive titles such as “I Swear, I Really Wanted To Make A ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time” and “That Night In Hawaii When I Turned Into A Panther And Started Making These Low Register Purring Tones That I Couldn’t Control… Shit Was Wild.”
Andre 3000 expressed his intention not to mislead fans into expecting a traditional rap album and emphasized the absence of verses. New Blue Son is a unique addition to Andre 3000’s discography, making it his first official solo studio album since 2006’s Idlewild, OutKast’s final album as a group.
In a previous interview with NPR, Andre 3000 stated, “I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, this André 3000 album is coming!'” This surprise release stands as a testament to his innovative approach to music and his continuous exploration of different artistic dimensions.
