CHIZABAM INTERVIEW

Chizabam was good enough to spend a few minutes answering some questions, check this interview out below.

Mxrtlxck: First things first, the new track is majorly dope bro big up! How did the collab between yourself, LRD and Oozhe come around?

Chizabam: Well, I had collaborated with LRD a few years back after linking up with him on SoundCloud. He recently hit me up and made me aware of an EP that he was dropping with Oozhe and asked me if I’d like to collab on it. As soon as I heard the vibe to Knockout, I knew that was the killer.

M: Oozhe and LRD are sick producers from the UK, do you have any plans working with any other UK heads?

C: You know, there is a lot of talent out there in the UK, and I feel that they are slept on to an extent on the global hip-hop scene. I have nothing but praise for Lrd and Oozhe, both are hard hitters with great musical visions and bring life to there productions. I really enjoy the experience Akala brings from the musical, social, historical, and education level, especially his recital of Shakespeare in the modern hip-hop context. Would be interesting to work with him. You never know what the future holds.

M: You’re featuring on the EP ‘Two Kings’ which is in the pipeline, any other guest features from yourself dropping soon?

C: I’m really excited about Two Kings, it’s a powerful project. As for guest features, there’s a project my homeboy Fiji Kami is dropping soon called ‘Before The Struggle’ wherein I produced the majority of the tracks on it. Definitely watch out for that. I’ve also recently collaborated with DJ Chepi Fren, an Ecuadorian hip-hop artist/producer on a track called ‘Ajena’ or ‘Alien’ (in English). It’s the perfect intersection where Spanish and English flows meet on a blazing trap beat. That’s on the way as well. Constantly working and building

M: When sitting down to finalize a project, what is your method to write and structure your tracklisting?

C: Tracklisting is everything to me. Because it’s not just about having a lot of tracks randomly scattered everywhere, anyone can do that.
I like to have a theme of the project then give the listener a full experience based upon that. So each track is selected in its order for the sake of building up a certain feeling, which I’m sure can be appreciated.

M: Do you have a secret regime when hitting up the studio? Eat or drink anything specific, wear a certain item etc?

C: Awesome question haha. Dude, I have a home studio, which I love. I’m highly introverted when it comes to recording and enjoy being able to chill at home and record in a tee shirt and sweatpants. Comfort means a lot to me when creating, the ability to relax, release, and let go. I will say that I have a lamp that emits a green light. My favourite colour is green, so the green vibe in the room gets me where I need to be. I don’t like to eat much when hitting the studio, just a bottle of water or two.

M: Aside from the upcoming EP feature, do you have anything else lined up for the future, solo or collaborations?

C: Yesssir. Aside from ‘Two Kings’ and Fiji’s ‘Before the Suffering’, I have an LP dropping next month on October 19th, called ‘The Progression’. The vibes on there are crazy, I’m letting go, being me and just enjoying the creative process. Nothing is rushed or overthought, its just a Chizabam experience. Really excited about that, on all digital platforms October 19th, be on the lookout.

M: Thanks for your time today, the new track ‘Knockout’, taken from the upcoming ‘Two Kings’ EP, is out now! Do you have any last words for us or names you’d like to mention?

C: Thanks for having me, I appreciate the opportunity. I want everyone to stop what you’re doing and go add ‘Knockout’ to your playlist. Also, my single ‘Bam’ is currently streaming on all major digital platforms, go jump on that ASAP. I’d like to shout out my brother 400 Kaj Duval, Fiji Kami, Ryda, and Sko. SNL is moving
