$VN are kicking off the spring with a bang by releasing an animated music video for their smash hit tune “Deviant,” which saw great success on the charts last year. Over a million people have listened to the song, and it peaked at #37 on SoundCloud’s Top 50: All Music Genres ranking in 2022. The pair kept the momentum going by enlisting the aid of visual artist/director @thatboykav (who has worked with Bad Bunny, Marshmello, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Roy Woods, and more) to produce a gorgeous animated music video for their party banger.
An exciting journey through “Sapphire city,” where the seemingly unbelievable becomes reality, awaits the audience. This city is a futuristic metropolis from another time or planet. The virtual SAGS and nyXsun, half of the $VN combo, are depicted zipping about town on a gravity-defying hovercraft. Neon signs and enormous holographic screens bring the metropolis to life. They can’t help but notice the $VN logo and slogan everywhere they go.
The music builds as the two characters go closer to their favourite club, “Club $VN,” and the camera closes in on their expressions of anticipation and delight. They enter the club to the sight of flashing neon signs, pounding music, and exciting dancers.
“We wanted to shoot a music video for this track, and we might still do that, but we knew we could call up Kav to bring the vision to life in animated form,” says SAGS. “The story and theme of the song are captured perfectly with the bright lights in the dark city and club setting. It’s amazing to see ourselves in animated form, geared up in clothing we usually wear, driving around the city and hitting a club, just like we’d do in real life.”
“Deviant” is more than just a hit single – it’s a journey through the murky depths of desire, a haunting melody that tells the story of a woman who is both irresistible and dangerous. Produced by the enigmatic @yoshubs, a longtime friend and member of the MØD (Makers Over Dreamers) crew, the song is a masterful blend of smooth beats, hypnotic melodies, and raw, unfiltered emotion.
In each verse, SAGS and nyXsun take turns describing their experiences with the mysterious “Deviant” woman. She is a force to be reckoned with, a siren song that lures them ever deeper into a world of passion and danger. Despite knowing that she is no good for them, they find themselves drawn to her again and again, unable to resist her seductive charms.
The song’s hook is a catchy melody that was composed by Club 97, a friend and partner who also contributed to the song’s topic and concept. The hook is the most important part of a song; it’s a memorable phrase or lyric that sticks with the listener long after the music stops.
$VN and the MD team have a busy remainder of the year planned, with new collaborations, a revamped website complete with a merch store, and, of course, new music. They’re going to continue being Deviants while they’re in Sapphire.
