As of today, Philly’s own Fridayy is now an artist to keep an eye on, having been revealed as a member of XXL’s Class of 2023 Freshmen. The praise is evidence of his triple force as an artist, as he combines R&B melody with Rap flavour to create music that defies classification. Fridayy keeps the momentum going at a skyscraping level by dropping the official music video for “Don’t Give It Away” featuring Chris Brown via Def Jam Recordings.
Fridayy’s “Don’t Give It Away” is the first taste of his upcoming debut LP, and it features a smooth guitar loop that winds around a glitchy beat. Fridayy grooves while reminding Shorty, “Shorty, you know you can have it your way.” Fridayy and Brown are shown in the music video directed by The.97 [Roy Woods] playing poker while being careful not to reveal their affections for one another. His slow buildup to a blazing falsetto is followed by Breezy’s equally mesmerising guest appearance. They’ve collaborated on what could be the best upbeat R&B song of the summer. Since its release earlier this month, the single has amassed over 4 million streams on Spotify alone, debuted at #22 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart the previous week, and received praise from a wide variety of publications, including XXL, VIBE, Rap Radar, and Hot New Hip Hop.
